KENYA MISSION TRIP

"Many thanks to everyone who bought a pound cake to support the Kenya Mission trip.  In cake sales and extra donations we have collected $ 930.00 for this trip.  I would like to thank Barbara Jones and Dot Brogan, who loaned their cake pans for this endeavor and a special thank you to Val Follo, who furnished the electricity for baking the cakes!"

MONTAGNARD ASSISTANCE MISSION UPDATE
Our team of volunteer tutors has done a FANTASTIC JOB with the Montagnard children their parents and schools. Their sustained efforts and achievements are a continuous source of pride. The children actively participate in sports, music, scouting, and church/community activities to complement their academic experiences.
H'Nen and H'Driet Enoul recently spoke to a book club at Books-A-Million about their earlier school experiences in Vietnam. Their presentation was captivating as they described stark contrasts between their lives then and now. Classroom punishment was neither fair nor humane.
Our early tutoring focused on children; however, we have now expanded to include adult education. We need more volunteers to help!

Your donations and concern have enabled volunteers to deliver household goods to over 49 families, 200 persons, 4 congregations, and a large playground. We've experienced life in many settings up-close, some which were glad while others were sad; some were disgusting and some really great! All this happens because of your concern and generosity.

Thanks A Million to all who signed the petition to ask the U.S. Congress to end the abuse and slow genocide practiced by the Vietnam government against the Montagnard people. Congress has yet to act on either bills  (the Vietnam Human Rights Act of 2009) and the brutal persecution continues. We need some serious prayer with here.... right now!

Last month Ken Carter joined local representatives from Save the Montagnard People in Washington, D.C. to give a formal briefing to the American Legion's National Leaders Conference regarding the plight of the Montagnard people. A nerve must have been struck - because the American Legion announced it would endorse and support our efforts to save the Montagnards as one of their projects for the coming year.  We later met with several senior politicians to discuss the congressional delay and the results that has on the Montagnard people.

The number of Refugees has reduced to a trickle - and information from Vietnam is scarce. Most refugees who fled to the UN Camp in Phnon Penh, Cambodia have been forced back to Vietnam where living conditions are pitiful. We managed to send a GCUMC prayer shawl to one refugee who was forced to return to Vietnam. Feedback confirms its receipt and the message of love and hope exchanged and experienced.   Your Continued Prayers are needed by those far away, and by our volunteers who are attempting to make a difference!
