Spiritual Gifts

Taking the NEXT S.T.E.P.
“He has given each one of us a special gift according to the generosity of Christ. He is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.” --- Ephesians 4:7-12 (New Living Translation)
One key membership expectation at Guilford College UMC is that each member will give time and energy in service to others. It can be hard to decide, however, where and how we will serve. There are so many good and important ministries!
Just as you cannot fit a square peg into a round hole you cannot fit all people into the same ministry positions. Every position, and every person, is unique. The purpose of the S.T.E.P. process is to help you understand how God has created you, and to help you find an area of service that fits you well.
We are all on a journey. Completion of the S.T.E.P. Assessment will help you start down the path of meaningful service where your spiritual gifts, talents, experiences, personality and passion can be utilized in the church for the work of the Kingdom.

Every Christian has one of more God-given spiritual gifts that are given to fill a unique role in God’s service. Only as we all place our unique gifts into action is the church able to operate as God intended. The S.T.E.P. Assessment will help you determine what your Spiritual Gifts may be.
T - Talents
Everyone is born with natural talents. We may also develop talents through workplace experiences, schooling, and in other ways. God often takes our talents and uses them with our spiritual gifts. The S.T.E.P. Assessment will help you assess your talents and direct you to places where they can be utilized most effectively.
E - Experiences
Good or bad, our experiences have made us who we are today. As we look at life through the eyes of God, we come to understand that His gracious, healing touch can use all of our experiences to prepare us for service. The S.T.E.P. Assessment will help you review your life’s experiences, and guide you to those areas where your experiences can bless others.
P - Personality & Passion
Are you a “big picture” person, or do you like to work out every detail of a project? Which is harder – being with 12 other church members discussing a need, or being alone to write a proposal about that need? It is important to understand your individual personality and personal style. What are you passionate about? What really gets your “juices” flowing and causes your heart to race and your energy level to soar? The S.T.E.P. Assessment will help you discover ways to channel your personality and passion into ministry that brings power and glory to the Kingdom.

The church offers several S.T.E.P. classes each year, as well as personal consultations and support time from the Lay Leadership Development Team. You’ll want to attend one of the classes to benefit from the complete program . . . but you can begin by taking the On-Line Assessment and begin to see how your results can immediately be put into active service and ministry.
