Starting Point

The Christian life is not meant to be lived alone.  We were created for connection – with God and with one another.  Yet, each of us must take our own path, one where God is leading us to grow deeper in faith and become more like Him every day.  At Guilford College Church we call that path The Journey.

The ministry of our church is designed to help each of us as we take our Journey.  We invite you to say “Yes” to the amazing Journey that God has planned for you.  Below is some information that will help you get started.

GET CONNECTED

How do I get connected with this church family?  There are several options:

Attend the next worship service.  People are led into God’s presence through a variety of worship styles and experiences.  Come and experience a time of worship, and then make sure to stop by the GUEST RECEPTION on your way out to meet one of our pastors.  They can help you move deeper into our community life.

Attend a Sunday Morning Class.  We have classes designed for all ages and interests that are open to everyone.  A list of classes is found at the Information Center, or you can check under the Learning Opportunities on our webpage.

Attend a Small Group Bible Study.  We have opportunities all throughout the week at various times to meet the needs of all who are on a journey.  Check under the Learning Opportunities on our webpage for the small group options that work for you.

Attend the Starting Point Class.  An informal coffee time with the pastors is held bi-monthly on a Sunday evening where individuals can learn more about our church, our vision, and programs.  This is a safe place to meet new folks and ask any question that might be on your mind regarding our church or Christianity.  After this session, those who desire to join with our church will be assisted.

Sign up for “Discover Community."  Discover Community is a four-week series of classes designed to help you explore, and identify the four central focuses of our church family so you’ll know what we are talking about  when you hear us lift up:  Caring – Connecting – Learning – Serving.

I’m not a member.  Do I need to join in order to participate?
No.  Our Learning opportunities are open to everyone, especially those who are exploring Christianity and want to get closer to God.

How do I become a member?
After attending the Starting Point Session, there are three ways:

1.  Your profession of faith.  If you have never been a part of a faith community and feel God has led you to join with us, by your profession of faith in God, and Jesus Christ as the Savior and Lord of all, you can request to be a member.  If you have never been baptized, this can also be arranged.

2.  Reaffirmation of your faith.  Perhaps you were a part of a church family in the past, but it’s been years since you participated.  By reaffirming your faith, you can begin the journey again.

3.  Transfer from another congregation.  You may have been a member of another
congregation but now desire to be a part of our family.  Talk with the pastors and they can arrange to contact your previous church for a letter of transfer.
