Mission Teams

In response to natural disasters, our church has sent out numerous adult mission teams. Following Hurricane Katrina, GCUMC sent 14 mission teams to Mississippi to help with rebuilding efforts there. More recently, adult mission teams from our church responded the aftermath of flooding in Rainelle, West Virginia in November 2016, and in Tarboro, NC in May 2017. Another Adult Mission trip is being planned for May 2018.

Disaster Supplies

Realizing that not everyone has the time nor desire to join a mission team, but would like a hands-on way to help relieve suffering, we have provided many opportunities over the years for packing hygiene kits and flood buckets. Most recently, in response to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, church members of all ages packed 100 buckets with all the supplies necessary to begin cleaning and sanitizing a home affected by flooding.

UMCOR

The United Methodist Committee on Relief responds to domestic and international crises, where they are often the first to show up and the last to leave. Because UMCOR spends no money on advertising, and its overhead costs are paid in other ways, 100% of donations to our denomination’s relief agency are used for your specified cause. After Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, our church members contributed more than $7,000 to UMCOR, participating in yet another way to support those affected by disaster.
