Partnership Village

Twice monthly, GCUMC volunteers provide Bible study and a meal for adults & children who are residents of this transitional housing community. Partnership Village is a Greensboro Urban Ministry program for families moving from homelessness to independence. We also support PV children for summer camps, and have recently begun involvement in the Future Bound college and career readiness program. These families are also invited to attend various church functions, such as Vacation Bible School, for which we provide transportation. Senior citizen residents also receive support at Christmas.

Pastor's Discretionary Fund

While responding to existing homelessness is important & necessary, so is prevention. For that reason, our church maintains a fund that can help respond to families in short-term crises by paying part of their rent, utility or medical bills. We partner with a network of other local churches and service providers that allows us to have a unified intake process. By sharing information and pooling resources, we see that these precious dollars have the greatest impact for those facing urgent and temporary need.

Youth Mission Trips

Our teens lead the way in serving our neighbors at GCUMC, not least of which is through three mission trips they take each year: Re-creation , Appalachia Service Project, and a mission further afield, such as Minnesota or Puerto Rico. Through these missions, youth & their adult leaders are given the opportunity to make homes warmer, safer, drier and more accessible to those in need through construction projects. These are also relational ministries, so these youth get to share the love of God in tangible ways with families in rural Appalachia and beyond.

If you’re an adult who likes to swing a hammer, carry shingles or wield a paint brush, we have frequent opportunities closer to home. We’ve provided funds and labor for a number of Habitat for Humanity projects over the years. Currently, we are building a home in downtown High Point in conjunction with our fellow United Methodists. This house will be dedicated in April 2018. We have also engaged in rehab of existing homes in our community in partnership with Community Housing Solutions.
