Greensboro Urban Ministry
GUM is on the front lines of the churches’ response to hunger and poverty in our area. We support Urban Ministry’s food pantry and community kitchen throughout the year with our Easter Mission Offering, food drives, the CROP Walk and Christmas card sales.
Potato Drop
At least once per year our church brings a Potato Drop event to our area, in partnership with The Society of St. Andrew. Volunteers bag 40 thousand pounds of white potatoes, which are then distributed to a network of over 30 local agencies, food pantries and churches. Through these efforts, potatoes that would otherwise go to waste, are salvaged. These events have allowed our church to provide 250,000 pounds of potatoes to hungry people in our community since 2015.
Community Gardens
In addition, our church also provides fresh produce locally through our Community Garden on campus, expanded in 2017. We have established or expanded raised garden beds at Jefferson Elementary, Western Guilford High School and Guilford Middle School.
