We love children at Guilford College United Methodist Church! It is our privilege and joy to partner with parents to help children become fully developing followers and disciples of Jesus Christ. Our children’s ministry provides a nurturing Christ-centered environment which will encourage children to . . .

Our lessons are relevant to today’s kids. We teach the Bible creatively and intentionally. We build relationships with children through gifted and trained leaders in small groups and special events. We keep children spiritually, emotionally, and physically safe while we have a BLAST loving Jesus! 

Learning

Sunday Morning Learning Groups meet from 9:45-10:45 a.m. in the children's building.


Joyful Noise Choir - Age 4 - Grade 1 - Wed. 5:25-5:50 p.m.

Jubilee Kids Choir – Grades 2 & 3 - Wed. 6:00-6:30 p.m.


Children's Worship - Children's Worship prepares children for worship, helps them understand what worship is, and helps them to creatively and interactively experience and respond to God in an age appropriate worship setting. Offered during the 11:00 a.m. worship for children who are age 3 as of the beginning of the school year through Grade 3.


Wednesday Night Bible Studies meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the children's building in age-appropriate groups.


Bible Exploration - Grade 3 children explore the Holy Bible through many different activities - games, music, sharing, puzzles, prayer, projects, and weekly activities!  


Worship Explorers - Grade 4 children explore how we worship as a community of believers in Jesus Christ and strengthens their participation in congregational worship.


Human Sexuality - A human sexuality study with a Christian foundation entitled "Created by God." Students in grades 4-6 participate in student sessions; parents participate in parent sessions as well as joint child/parent sessions.

Section Title

Mission Possible Kids - Kids and their families join together once a month for a mission opportunity! MP Kids has touched over 2,200 individuals locally, nationally, and globally with the love of Christ! MISSION POSSIBLE KIDS – CHANGING THE WORLD BY HELPING OTHERS


Backpack Club - The Backpack Club helps children who have been identified as being at risk of going hungry over the weekend. Each week, volunteers fill backpacks with nutritious, kid-friendly food that the child takes home on Friday and brings back to be filled again the next week. GCUMC also provides Thanksgiving meals, Christmas gifts, summer food program, and back to school shopping for our Backpack Club kids.


SPARK - Ministry for Grades 4-6 provides opportunities for kids to live out their faith by serving in the church and in the community.


Acolytes - Acolytes serve an important ministry in the morning worship services. Children in grades 4-6 are invited to serve as acolytes.

Connecting & Caring

As we connect and care for one another, whether in a Sunday Morning Learning Group, a small group Bible study, missions and outreach, or being present with a child and his/her family in the midst of life situations, we strive to building lasting relationships centered on Christ. Through these relationships, we find acceptance, encouragement, accountability, and support to live as disciples of Christ.

Wednesday Night Out Family Dinner - 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Fall Festival - A church-wide fellowship day with games, professional crafters, children's activities, bake sale and stew.

Advent Festival - Activities for children, youth and adults in preparation of Christmas.

Lent Festival - Activities for children, youth and adults in preparation of Resurrection Day.

Easter Egg-Stravaganza - Easter Egg Hunt, Children’s Carnival, inflatables, pony rides, petting zoo, and refreshments.

Weekday Preschool

We are in full swing with the children this fall!  In light of the COVID Pandemic, our procedures have been updated to keep everyone safe and help the students and their families feel comfortable.  We are practicing safe guidelines for the health and well-being of our entire school community. These procedures are in compliance with the State of NC DHHS, CDC, and the UMC Conference requirements. 


GCUMC Preschool offers a developmental curriculum which presents both structured and non-structured activities, affording the children a wide variety of hands-on learning opportunities throughout the day.


We believe in the “Whole Child” approach to learning that focuses on meeting a child’s individual needs as well as supporting their development spiritually, emotionally, physically and cognitively in a warm, loving, and safe environment that fosters family communication and enables each student to reach his or her full potential.

Nursery & Preschool

Our nursery staff provides consistent and nurturing attention in a secure and loving setting. They are assisted by adult volunteers as needed. Each child care worker has been carefully selected, screened and background checked to assure the church is providing the best possible care for your child.


Parents bringing children to the nursery will receive a numbered pager which is used for parent notification and identification to pick up your child.

Our preschool children enjoy creative, engaging, age-appropriate Bible lessons and activities which stimulate the wonder and awe of God in their lives. We follow Jesus’ example of being in relationship with these little ones as we journey together to know and love Jesus. Preschool ministry includes:

Elementary

Our elementary children’s ministry provides engaging opportunities for children to explore the Bible, the church, our United Methodist heritage and traditions, worship, and what it means to live as a disciple of Christ. Just as Jesus nurtured his apostles, our adult leaders are intentionally in relationship with children to nurture and encourage their faith journey. Elementary ministry includes:

SPARK

SPARK provides awesome events for kids in Grades 4-6 to SPARK their faith to IGNITE their world with the LIGHT of Christ! This is accomplished through spirit-filled, fun group activities that promote and encourage Christian values, Bible studies that nurture and challenge faith, and mission opportunities that allow response to God’s love and puts faith in action. All SPARK activities target the emotional, developmental, physical and spiritual needs of this specific age group.
