General Conference 2024 Information Session 2
GCUMC AND THE 2024 UNITED
METHODIST GENERAL CONFERENCE
TWO INFORMATION SESSIONS TO BE OFFERED RELATED TO
GCUMC AND THE 2024 UNITED METHODIST GENERAL CONFERENCE
The United Methodist General Conference is a gathering of UM delegates from all
around the world who meet together every four years to consider changes to the
United Methodist Book of Discipline. The next United Methodist General Conference
will be held April 23 – May 3, 2024 in Charlotte, NC.
Among the important items which will be discussed at the Conference is the UM
Church’s approach to ministry with LGBTQ+ persons. Currently the United Methodist Book of Discipline welcomes the participation of LGBTQ+ folks in the life of its congregations, but does not allow for the blessing of same-sex marriages or for the ordination of gay or lesbian persons who are in such a relationship.
To help inform our congregation about these issues, and to assist us in better
understanding what will be discussed at General Conference, Pastor Jeremy is
planning to lead two special information sessions for our church family in February
and March. Each of these two information sessions will be offered twice in order to
accommodate as many peoples’ schedules as possible.
The second information session will be titled “An Overview of the 2024 UMC General Conference” and will be offered on Sunday afternoon, March 10 from 4pm – 5:45pm, and on Thursday evening, March 14 from 6:30pm – 8:15pm.
